Tanner has been feeling good. The raining season is starting. Thankfully Tanner has new shoes that will keep his feet dry. They have been busy finding new investigators. They found them on the streets because it is too dangerous to go door to door to do tracting. He said for every hundred person that they talk to only about one will actually take lessons. They get most of their investigators from referrals.
Tanner was able to play the guitar for a few minutes. He enjoyed it but knows that in about six months he can play it all he wants.
Mother’s day Skype was awesome! Tanner looked and sounded so good. Sometimes the connection was not the greatest and Tanner would be pretty blurry but it was so worth seeing and hearing him. Only a little more than 6 months until he comes home. I was worried that Skyping us would cause Tanner to be home sick and Tanner said that he was staying there forever-just kidding.
During our Skype I wanted to ask him what did he think that he would want to do for a living when he came home but I did not get a chance to, so I asked him in a email. He said, “I have decided to become a mountain man. I am going to live off the land and poach to live and I will build an illegal log cabin in the middle of nowhere to live. Then I will come down from the mountain and find a wife and we’ll live in our cabin with our kids the rest of our days only to come down to go to church and things like that. Just kidding. But it would be pretty cool.” Funny guy. He has been thinking about what he wants to do but is unsure. He said that he needs to fast and pray about his future.
Just a short expert from Tanner’s email this week. “My companion is pretty cool so far. We are finding people little by little. We found a lady named Yeni (Jenny) She is an old investigator who used to listen to the sister missionaries but they never went back with her. we found her using the records we have in our area book. She was outside her house because her key was stuck in the lock and she didn’t know how to open the door. So we taught her a bit and she didn’t seem too willing to let us come back so we were about to go but Elder Montiel wanted to help her to open her door first so he struggled with it and used a metal rod to open the door. She was so excited and she invited us in for a glass of water. Inside we talked more about the gospel and she said we could come back. It was a cool experience, she wasn’t going to accept us but Elder Montiel helped her and she is going to let us come back because of it. Service really does help.
I saw Elder Aris at a leadership council on Friday and he is that Luna and Jose will still get married. He saw Antonio but he didn’t go to church or to the addictions class. Thinking of baptisms I saw Elder Cardenas today and he told me that Ramon, one of our investigators in La Joya (my first area) got baptized in some other place a month and a half ago. I am so happy he is a member now. Also I forgot to tell you that a family of 3 in Politecnio that Elder Robertson and I found and started teaching got baptized not too long ago as well. I guess I at least left seeds for others to be baptized in those areas. ” It is so awesome to see that the Church is growing because of service and seeds that were planted.
He is excited for the opportunity to Skype us on Mother’s Day.
There was a volcano in Mexico not too far from Mexico City where Tanner is serving. When I asked him about it he said, “What volcano, I have not noticed anything different” I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
Tanner is liking his new companion. The area that they are in is small and flat-no more hills.
Tanner is over four sister missionaries and two elders. His companion is over six sister missionaries. They make sure that they are doing what they are suppose to be doing. He helps keep them motivated.
