Week 38

Tanner has had a decent week. He says it is hard because alot of people are on vacation. The area that he is now in surrounds a university. Mexico City is super busy and Tanner still needs to get used to it.
Tanner sent pictures this week from his old area of La Joya. He sent a picture of the security guard of his old apartment area. Tanner said that he knew how to use a knife to fight and taught Tanner a few things.

In his last area Tanner and his companion Elder Cardenas won  the Balon de Oro the last week together because they had the most success for two weeks in their zone. It was their first time winning and they were happy.

It looks like something they pass from person to person depending on who won. Their names go in it. Pretty cool.
He also sent pictures of the Cruz family. They took good care of Tanner while he served in their ward. They will be missed.

He also sent pictures of two if his favorite investigators. He said they were his favorite because they already know so much about the church. Ramon (one in the Super man shirt) had read the Book of Mormon before he had even meet with the missionaries. He knows it us true but is afraid to be baptized because he has been Catholic is whole life and is afraid he will be rejected by his family and friends. Tanner knows one day they will be baptized.

They only have a few investigators now. They don’t baptize much in this area, hopefully they can do something about it.

Week 37

Tanner said this was a good week. He works in the mission office every day from 11-2. They do reimbursements, rent and whatever the president ask them to do. He has his own desk and computer. They teach from 3-9pm. He said his new ward is cool and has good members who are willing to go teach with them. Tanner’s new companion is Elder Harmon.

Of course being in a new area Tanner has a new place to live.  I have to be honest when i first saw the pictures of his new place I wanted to cry. It is so small, only one room to sleep, study and live. And a small bathroom. Then I had to remember that Tanner is doing the Lord’s work and it does not matter where he lives because he is being taking care by the Lord and the great members of his new ward.

He also sent a picture of the house he has a room in. He lives with an old lady and her family. The house looks like a cross between a haunted house and a prison and is pretty big.

We had sent Tanner a package the beginning of July and it sat in customs in Mexico City for a month. We did not know that you can not ship shoes to Mexico with a shoe permit that the recipient must obtain, which was something Tanner could not do. So finally we got the package with everything in it. We will send it for is birthday in October, but before we do we will call DHL to make sure everything that is in the package can be shipped. So Paige used Missionary Package Shipping to surprise Tanner with a package. He loved it. What a great sister!!

Tanner is living in Federal District which is the capital. He says it is fairly rich area and there is a Walmart close. I ask about his shoes and told him when it comes time to need more he would need to buy them there.

Week 36 First transfer

This was a tough week for Tanner. It was also a great week. On Friday he was able to go by bus to Tequixquiac to marry a couple. He said the area reminded him of Overton, I not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

image

He took a selfie with his companion Elder Cardenas in the bus on the way there. Looks like they were having a good time.

image

On Saturday Tanner had a baptism of three people. Bryan who was 8, his  Aunt Jaqueline who was 12 and Mario .  The missionaries had been working with Mario for a year or so helping him get divorced so he could marry someone else.

This was Tanner first transfer and he said it sucked to saying goodbye to everyone.  Tanner is in a new area with a new companion, Elder Harmon. He is now the Secretary to the Mission President.  He said he is glad to be in a new place but it will be interesting having all of the stress of the offices of the mission on his back, but he says it’s ok.  He will work as a secretary half the time and still teach people about the Gospel. Not sure what he will be emailing us so we will have to wait and see. I am anxious to  see pictures of his new apartment. Maybe next week.
