Week 18

Can you believe that Tanner has been out for four months now? He got a new companion-Elder Cardenas. He is from Columbia and speaks little to no English. Tanner said that Elder Cardenas did rap before his mission and he thought was interesting. Tanner said that saying goodbye to Elder Gomez his first companion was hard but he hopes it will get easier. Tanner said his spiritual message for this week was to watch General Conference. We are fortunate enough to have living prophets today and we can listen to them on the computer or go to the stake center to listen to them. But listen to them. During the Great Apostasy no one could hear from a living prophet, even when there were living prophets not everyone got to hear from them directly. But today everyone can. It is kind of sad when something us this easy we don’t want to do it. So please watch conference. I know that when you do you will feel the spirit and the spirit will testify to you what you need to do to improve and become more like Christ. I testify these things and invite you to watch conference. In the name if Jesus Christ Amen.
Tanner and his companion were able to take some new converts to the Mexico City Temple Visitor Center. The temple is closed for renovation.
Tanner said that “The Walking Dead” is popular in Mexico also. He hears rumors about what is going to happen in the show even though he can’t watch it.

Week 17

Tanner’s emails this week were inspiring. He talked about how the people in Mexico have a hard time accepting the truth. He is teaching a lady who must move out of her mother-in-laws house before she gets baptized or she will be kicked out. He said people are so stubborn and stuck in their
traditions, when we teach some people they threaten to alienate those
they love just because they believe something different than what they
have been told is true by family members for long time. Oh , how Satan has power over many people. His mission President told them to have faith and they change a country. He shared a video but it is Spanish, he said he forgot we don’t speak Spanish. The message is the same no matter the language. http://media2.ldscdn.org/assets/missionary/easter-2015/2015-04-1010-he-lives-celebrate-easter-because-jesus-christ-lives-1080p-spa.mp4

Week 13-16

It has been awhile since we updated Tanner’s blog. He has been busy teaching the word of God. He has been a  part of six people being baptized.  Tanner is enjoying Mexico but he is not enjoying the weather. He says it is freezing at night and in the morning but during the day it is hot. He was able to play guitar with an investagator. They played some blues. He said it was good but also distracting.  Tanner shared one of his favorite scriptures with us. I really like 1 Nephi 19:23   23 And I did read many things unto them which were written in the books of Moses; but that I might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer I did read unto them that which was written by the prophetIsaiah; for I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning.

Especially the end part that talks about likening the scriptures to ourselves.  When we study the scriptures it can make it more interesting if we put our names in there instead of the names in the scriptures.  It is also helpful to look at all of it especially the Book of Mormon as a message to us.  Because it really was written for us in our day and we can learn something from every chapter.  So I recomend that you guys read the Book of Mormon daily becasue there are always messages in the we can learn.  Even if it is only like 5 verses a day, it is still important.  And always accompany you scripture study with prayer.  I know that as you do these things you will become closer to God and will be strengthened spriritual and mentally.  I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
